Hi, I’m Anvit and I’m currently a freshman at UW-Madison studying computer science. As UW-Madison is a large public school, your classes are generally pretty large. While the size of the school may scare you, it also means that your experience at Madison will be what you make it out to be. For example, you will have a lot of freedom over which classes you take and which clubs you join—there’s even a cheese-eating club (Wisconsin is known as the cheese state after all).

Classes are academically rigorous, but resources provided by your TAs and professors outside lectures are extremely helpful. There are ample opportunities to have fun either at parties or on game days—when the campus bursts with school spirit. Not to mention, Madison is a nice, lively city. It isn’t too large like a lot of the metropolitan cities here, but it is not completely isolated either. We have State Street really close to campus, which has everything a regular college student needs, from coffee shops to restaurants to a bookstore. In addition, Chicago is a short bus ride away if you want a taste of a big city. However, just beware it does get really cold here, especially during the winter months, so make sure you’re prepared for that. All in all, I really enjoyed the people I met and my time here on campus and believe UW-Madison was the right decision for me.
